‘‘If I am incompetent, I am useless, the people of India will see that,’’ said Rahul Gandhi, talking about what he called ‘‘the dynasty thing’’. ‘‘Just because my father was in politics, my grandmother was in politics, my great-grandfather was in politics, doesn’t mean I should be barred,’’ he said.In an interview to BBC World’s Asia Today, Rahul Gandhi admitted the response he was getting while campaigning was because of his father. ‘‘I think what one mustn’t confuse is why I am getting this response.the great response is because of Rajiv Gandhi, not Rahul Gandhi,’’ he said.He denied living a cushy life prior to joining politics, saying that he was ‘‘getting hammered in a corporate job’’, working 18-19 hours a day for Monitor Company. ‘‘It’s a Harvard Business School company and they don’t joke around, you know, if you don’t deliver, you are sacked,’’ he said.He denied he had been ‘‘chosen’’ to contest the Lok Sabha elections over his sister. ‘‘It’s not that I am chosen, my sister is not chosen, it is, we believe in this country and we will act for this country, that’s it,’’ he said.
