While several adjectives have been used time and again to laud the invaluable role of teachers, they have rarely been given the true appreciation they deserve.
“It does not matter whether I receive an award or not, I will continue to do my job relentlessly,” said Dinesh Saraswat of Jawahar Navodya Vidyalya who was given the Tara Chand Saboo Excellence Award for teaching economically underprivileged children. Saraswat who has been in the profession for over two decades said that lack of resources should not create obstacles for the deserving.
“I started teaching as I wanted to provide a platform to the less fortunate and, believe me, not for a moment did I regret the decision,” he added.
For Kranti Darshan Sharma from the Institute for the Blind, Sector 26, who was given the Special Jury Award for School Teaching, special children offer a “demanding” challenge as teaching them calls for patience and commitment.
“I believe that those who are physically challenged should not be denied the Right to Education. I consider myself fortunate to work for the betterment of these souls,” said Sharma who has been associated with these children for the past five years. Manjeet Jauhar, winner of the Tara Chand Excellence Award for School Teaching (Secondary Classes) believes that despite being a teacher, she continues to be a student as each day with children offers her something new to learn.
