In the coming weeks the Indian Air Force (IAF) will be increasing its foreign operational commitments as it prepares to send some helicopters to aid the ongoing peace-keeping operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

It is understood that air headquarters has already chalked out a plan to send a small fleet of helicopters as a part of the UN led peace-keeping force to be led by France.

Meanwhile, an IL-76 transport aircraft will take off for Alaska carrying over 30 IAF personnel for a multilateral military exercise to be held next week. The effort will provide an opportunity for the IAf to exercise with a number of air forces from across the globe.

While exercises between the IAF and other forces have been held earlier, they have been a bilateral effort. A similar exercise was conducted with the Americans in Alaska where special forces from both countries had worked together.

It is understood that a number of IAF personnel from the operations and Air Defence Directorate will participate in the exercise and observe their counterparts to understand their operational doctrines.
