Buoyed by the success of the Champions Trophy, the International Cricket Council is now planning to add another high-profile event billed as the Super Series to its calendar.

The tournament would pit the best team in the world against a Rest of the World side, the members of which would be picked based on their international rankings.

“The World Cup and Champions Trophy are the two major events being conducted by ICC. Soon ICC will stage another event called the Super Series,” ICC chief Ehsan Mani was quoted as saying in The GulfNews today. “The Super

Series will be a contest between the best team in the world against the rest of the world which will comprise top players,” Mani said.

Elaborating on the proposed event, Mani said “players for the rest of the world will be selected based on the ICC rankings for the best players. The best openers and outstanding middle-order batsmen as well as bowlers will make the team”. The series, comprising one Test match and three ODIs, would be held every four years.
