Asking DMK workers to ignore party chief M Karunanidhi’s recent appeal not to celebrate his 85th birthday, party general secretary K Anbazhagan on Monday urged them to celebrate the day in a grand manner “as it is the only medicine to cure the worries” of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
“Karunanidhi’s statement that nobody should come to meet him on his birthday shocked me and partymen,” Anbazhagan, who has remained steadfast in his loyalty to Karunanidhi over the years, said in a statement here on Monday.
Anbazhagan said he was surprised to note Karunanidhi’s remarks that considering the mental and physical strain, he (Karunanidhi) should be relieved from the task of receiving visitors on his birthday.
“It seems that something is worrying him,” the DMK general secretary, who is also the Finance Minister said.
“The birthday celebrations are the only medicine for his worries. Let every party unit celebrate his birthday in a grand manner. Make preparations for it right from today,” he said.
Anbazhagan said Karunanidhi’s reasons that he did not want to celebrate his birthday due to uncertainty over the Sethusamudram Project and the menace of terrorism threatening the country, as well as ‘betrayal’ by those close to him should not be causes to call off the celebrations.
Though there might be some hindrances in implementing the Sethusamudram Project, it would definitely fructify as “it is the compulsion of time”, Anbazhagan said.
