CHANDIGARH, Nov 24: The Indira Gandhi Stadium Coaching Centre, Delhi won the overall championship of the sixth A K Mishra Memorial boxing championship here, pipping the hosts Chandigarh to the second position.
Both the teams had 24 points each and with two gold medals each as well, it boiled down to the silver medal tally. The Delhi side had three silver to Chandigarh’s two and, thus, earned the right to championship.
Anand, in the light-fly weight category and Parmod Singh, in the Bantam weight category, won gold medals for Chandigarh, while IGS Delhi picked up gold medals through Manoj Panwar, in the feather weight category and Rajendra Singh, in the super-heavy weight category.
The Chandigarh lad, Parmod Singh was declared the best boxer while Karnataka’s M Murthy, who lost in the final of the super-heavy weight category, had the consolation of getting the best loser award.
