The Indian Hockey Federation (IHF), in a surprise move, decided to terminate the penultimate phase of the Champions Trophy camp here prematurely. The camp, scheduled to go on till November 10, will now end on October 30. The players reassemble in Chennai for the last phase of the camp after a 10-day break.

IHF joint secretary Ramachandra Rao told The Indian Express: “The idea is to help the players acclimatise to conditions in Chennai, the venue.”

Many in the camp, though, welcomed the move. “At least we will be able to go home for Diwali,’’ said one player. The selectors will meet on Saturday to prune the list of probables for the final camp.
