After a series of hurdles, IIM-Calcutta finally released offer letters to OBC candidates on Friday. Although the Calcutta High Court had earlier stayed the admission of OBC students on May 14, the impasse was cleared by the Supreme Court after a few days allowing the institute to carry on with its admission process. IIM-C conducted the group discussion and personal interview on May 15 but was waiting for a go-ahead from the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) before releasing its final list.

“MHRD has enclosed a copy of the Supreme Court ruling with the official letter and asked the institute to go ahead with the admission process,” said the chief administrative officer of IIM-Calcutta, Dinesh Varma. Since the academic session will start from June 23, it is high time the offer letters were sent to the students, an IIM-C official added.

However, since the instructions from the ministry are not very clear, the offer letters are provisional — the candidates in question were asked to sign a statement declaring that their admissions would be null and void in case of any legal complications.

This year, out of 318 students, nine students will be admitted under the OBC quota to IIM-C for the postgraduate diploma course in business management.
