Batchmates of a former IIT student, who went missing in the sprawling Yosemite National Park in the US on May 19, are rallying together online to help locate their friend.
YSSKS Kiran, who graduated from IIT-Kharagpur in 2001, was working with NVidia in the San Francisco Bay Area after completing his PhD in computer science from the University of Minnesota in 2006. His batchmates have set up a blog in a bid to find Kiran who went missing while on a visit to the historic park. The blog has appealed to anyone who can help Kiran’s cousins who are at the park, but are unfamiliar with the terrain, to volunteer.
“Kiran’s cousins are from the East Coast and are not familiar with the area. People who are can help them. There are 15 trained search and rescue personnel and six teams of sniffer dogs looking for him. Volunteers will not be doing anything life-threatening but will just co-ordinate with rescue officers to make sure that lines of communication between Kiran’s family and friends and them are constantly maintained,” said the blog.
And people have already started pitching in — like Srihari Yamanoor, a Stanford student, who says he’s “very familiar with Yosemite”. Others have posted their thoughts about Kiran as they know him. “He likes to talk about his car, a 2007 Lexus. He calls ‘her’ Lisa and enjoys boasting about ‘her’ features,” said the testimonial of Praveen Bhojwani, Class of 2001, IIT Kharagpur.
