A day after IIT-Kanpur students were stopped from meeting Rahul Gandhi and registering their protest against OBC reservation in higher educational institutions, the Congress MP today invited the students to see him in New Delhi and discuss the issue. However, the protesting students have refused to accept the “informal invitation” and dubbed it as “an election stunt”.

The IIT-K wing of “Youths for Equality” had planned to show black flags to Rahul to register their protest against the Congress party’s reservation policy on Tuesday. The institute’s management had stopped them from coming out of classrooms.

“I didn’t know that the students wanted to protest. In fact, I would have liked to listen to them…,” Rahul told mediapersons.

Talking to The Indian Express, Chandra Shekhar, representative of the Youth for Equality in IIT-K, said students believed that Rahul’s offer was an election stunt. “We are not in a hurry to see anybody. Let the election pass and let Rahul invite us formally for a meeting before we decide our next step,” he added.
