Even as Congress chief Sonia Gandhi moves from village-to-village in Uttar Pradesh projecting the NDA Government’s five-year term as a failure, Prime Minister A.B. Vajpayee today appealed to party workers to communicate to people and highlight the achievements of the government led by him. Addressing a large crowd of BJP workers in Lucknow on Sunday evening, Vajpayee said: ‘‘Pichle paanch sal mein humne jo kaam kiye, uski tasveer samne hain. Hum apni uplabdhi lekar janta ke pass jayenge. Iske liye karyakartaon ko jutna padega (The work we have done in the past five years is there for all to see. We will take our achievements to the people and for this party workers will have to apply themselves).’’ The PM, who is on a two-day tour of his parliamentary constituency, assured his electorate that he would contest the coming Lok Sabha polls from Lucknow. ‘‘I have been invited to contest the parliamentary polls from several states but I will contest from Lucknow.’’ Rejecting Sonia’s claim that ‘‘farmers, unemployed and women are fed with the NDA’’, the PM said: ‘‘Kuch dino se yeh prachar ho raha hain ki hamne kisano ke liye kuch nahi kiye. Yeh bat galat hain. Aaj kisan santoosht hain. (In the past few days it has been projected that our government has done for the farmers. This is a false propoganda as the farmers are satisfied). He also exhorted party workers not to rely only on the publicity (in newspapers) or the BJP’s printed material highlighting their achievements. ‘‘We should go to the villages and adopt a person-to-person approach to convince people that the NDA Government has done good for them, said Vajpayee. Meanwhile, after almost five years, Vajpayee ate at RKP chief Kalyan Singh’s residence sending out a strong message to BJP leaders in the state that the party’s national leadership has assumed command of the state. Earlier, the PM would dine at senior party leader Lalji Tandon’s house.
