How difficult was it to break into the Cup 15?

It was not difficult, but I consider myself lucky. I was keen and confident and utilised my opportunities. Opening the innings was an advantage, because that is what I love most. Moreover, I got immense support from the team.

It is true the World Cup is the biggest extravaganza of cricket, but that does not put additional pressure on me. I will try my best to fulfil the expectations of my team.

What sort of difficulties do you expect to face in West Indian conditions?

Indian conditions are not very different from the Caribbean. I have been to the West Indies before and I’m well accustomed to the conditions there. Moreover, we are reaching there a few days before the main draw and will get enough time to acclimatise to the conditions.

What is your personal ambition at the World Cup?

I’ve set a certain goal. I’ll stick to my natural game and follow the team’s instructions.

Dada is a phenomenal one-day player and his comeback is a huge morale-booster for the team. Opening the innings with such an experienced player is a great learning experience. He is a great motivator and guides me well.

What are India’s chances?

We’ve a very competitive side. But predicting our chances will be difficult as a match can change in just five overs. We had two good series (against Sri Lanka and West Indies) and if we can keep the momentum going, we’ve a fair chance.
