CHANDIGARH, May 27: The administration will carry out a major drive to remove all unauthorised constructions and encroachments in Daddu Majra labour colony, Adviser to the UT administrator Jagdish Sagar, who visited the colony, said today while listening to the grievances of the residents of the colony.
The residents were sore over three things: problems in getting admissions in schools against reserved quota, the dumping ground where all sort of junk and waste material has accumulated and the pathetic water supply in the colony.
Sagar said that all those children whose father or mother possessed a Schedule Caste certificate could avail of the benefits available in the school for the SC category students.
He also informed the residents how the administration was working towards improving water and sewerage facilities in the colonies and villages of the Union Territory.
The residents also demanded a playground which Sagar instructed the Chief Engineer to provide
.Mayor Gian Chand Gupta, who accompanied the Advisor, said that the administration would soon make arrangements to “burn” the garbage instead of shifting the dumping ground to another place. He also stressed on the need to lay emphasis on education of children as it helped in nation-building.
The residents complained that the colony was spruced up only before the visit of an official but remained neglected otherwise. “The entire colony, including the school, was in a shoddy state till yesterday,” said one of the residents.
Among others who accompanied the Advisor included Chief Engineer R. K. Jain, SSP C. S. R. Reddy and SDM Sanjiv Khirwar.
