Surat, Nov 16: More than 250 textile labourers led by the Rashtriya Mazdoor Sena (RMS) leaders today submitted a memorandum to the deputy labour commissioner here, demanding strict implementation of various labour laws that were allegedly being flouted by the entrepreneurs.
Led by RMS South Gujarat general secretary Suresh Sonawane and other trade union leaders, the delegation demanded strict implementation of labour laws in the city, which they claimed were being flouted at will by the owners.

In the memorandum the RMS held the labour department “completely responsible for the plight of thousands of labourers who had been rendered jobless.” The union leaders alleged that many officials of the department were hand in glove with the management, thus bringing legitimate demands by unions to nought.
In a demand made before the official, the union said that the office of the labour commissioner ought to carry out checking in all dyeing and printing, finishing, looms, art and silk units, chemical units and other establishments and make an on-the-spot assessment of how many units actually followed guidelines issued by the law.
