Rathore to lead India A

NEW DELHI: Vikram Rathore will lead the India A team with Mumbai leg-spinner Sairaj Bahutule as his deputy during the tour to Holland beginning towards the end of this month.

Announcing the 14-member squad here today, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary J Y Lele said the team would play one three-day and two One-day matches against Denmark and two three-day and three One-day matches against Holland. All the matches would be played at Amsterdam or Deventar in Holland.

Squad: Vikram Rathore (captain), Sairaj Bahutule (vice-captain), Jyoti Yadav, Nikhil Haldipur, Rajeev Kumar, Rohan Gavaskar, Vanka Pratap, Sanjay Raul, Gyanendra Pandey, MSK Prasad, Rajesh Pawar, Kanwaljeet Singh, Robin Singh (junior) and Ritender Singh Sodhi.

Bose dead

CALCUTTA: Sunil Bose, former sports editor of Amrita Bazar Patrika, died at a south Calcutta nursing home early this morning following protracted illness. He was 78.

Bose is survived by hisonly son. He served the Calcutta Sports Journalists Club as its president in 1981 and 1982.

Brolin attacked

BAASTAD, SWEDEN: Former Swedish international Tomas Brolin is recovering after being assaulted by a gang of youths here on Wednesday night.

According to a local police report, the 28-year-old, who was released on a free transfer from Crystal Palace in May, suffered bruising to his face and damaged teeth.

Becker stuns Rios

GSTAAD: Boris Becker, now semi-retired, will play for his first career clay court title after upsetting world number two Marcelo Rios in the semi-finals of the Swiss Open today.

The 30-year-old Becker showed there was still plenty of life left in old legs, brushing aside the 22-year-old Chilean 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

Asian Satellite

CHENNAI: The Indian Oil Servo Asian Satellite badminton tournament will be held at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium from July 13 to 17.

Organising secretary SKA Manickavasagam said it will be a bigopportunity for the Indians (as many as 19 men and 17 women are in the fray) to come out with a good show. Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bangladesh and Maldives are the other participants.
