Privatisation bid resented
The insurance employees are up in arms against the proposed move of the Central government to privatise the insurance sector. In a joint statement, various unions have warned of severe consequences if the government goes ahead with its plan. Says General Insurance Employees Association president I.P. Gupta: "There is widespread unrest and annoyance amongst the insurance employees. Whether it is the induction of the Indian or foreign companies into the insurance sector, it would be detrimental to the overall interests of the economy." Vikas Chadha, joint secretary of All India Insurance Employees Association, contends "the claim of allowing Indian companies alone cannot deceive anybody when every Indian company seeking entry has concluded MoU with its foreign collaborator".

Gurpurb observed
The martyrdom day of Guru Teg Bahadur was observed here today. Hundreds of devotees thronged the gurdwaras to pay obeisance to the Guru. Gurdwaras had also organised langars on the occasion.

Bajrang Dal call
The Chandigarh Bajrang Dal while criticising those observing December 6 as Black Day in protest of the recitation of "Vande Mataram" and "Saraswati Vandana" in schools, will instead observe the day as Shorya Diwas. The Dal convener Naresh Arora also called upon the public in a statement to respect the Indian culture and heritage.

Kids’ talent show
A colourful musical show comprising Indian and Western folk dances was presented by the students of St Xavier’s Senior Secondary School, Sector 44 at their Annual Children’s talent show. The item of Balanced Diet by nursery students and Coco-Jumbo of KG were thrilling. The audience were tapping their feet to the rythm of cultural folk dances. Nirmal Milkha Singh presided over the function. The chairman, Andrew Gosain told the parents of the allotment of a site for the junior school at SAS Nagar.
