
Global meet on women and child
Ahmednagar: A THREE-DAY international conference on “Women and child” has been organised by the Association of Agriculture Medicine and Rural Health, India Loni and Rural Health Project Jamkhed, at Pravara Medical in Loni on November 14, 15 and 16.
There will be discussions, suggestions, presentation of papers on women and child ailments, rights, child care and development.
The Pravara Medical Trust is working since 1992 in the field of village medical service and has agreed to host the international conference. The conference has received support from the UNESCO, UNICEF, DFID India British High Commissioner, WHO, the Government of India and Maharashtra and the University of Pune.
International experts like Dr Johnson from USA, Dr Karl Taylor from John Hopkins University of America, Dr David Warner of Africa, the chief of the UNICEF, India Dr Stephen Airwood, Prof Lee from China, Dr Tariwul Islam from Bangladesh, Dr Jun Park from Korea, Allen Chesler from the international women’s organisation of America, Prof Jene Tenchi from the Pek medical university of Hungary and also the delegates international organisations of world repute and a number of senior government officials will participate.
Suicide by housewife
Ahmednagar: Alka Haribhau Pawar, a 20-year-old married woman, who was allegedly harassed by her in-laws, ended her life by setting herself ablaze at Hingoni village in Kopargaon taluka, recently. Alka’s father, Muktaji Garad, has lodged a complaint with the police.
Youth kills woodcutter
Ahmednagar: The Camp police yesterday arrested a 25-year-old youth Sunil Kamble for allegedly killing a woodcutter, Lingayya Anna, at a Maruti temple in Bhingar Ves locality. Lingayya had taken the logs of tree cut by Kamble.
Kamble smashed Linganna’s head using a big stone, the police said.
Protest by retirees
Kolhapur: Members of Kolhapur district association of former government employees today staged noisy demonstrations at the collectorate demanding implementation of the Fifth Pay Commission recommendations. It was a disgrace for the State Government that retired employees were forced to take to the streets for their pays, MLA Digvijay Khanvilkar later said while addressing a gathering.
