SBI explains schemes to PEC students
The State Bank of India organised a seminar to explain the bank’s Gyan Jyoti Scheme (loans for education) to students of the Punjab Engineering College today. The bank’s other loan schemes and the recently launched SBI Card were also highlighted. SBI Regional General Manager D.P. Singhal was the chief guest and PEC principal Rajnish Prakash was the guest of honour.

Blood donation camp organised
At a camp organised by the Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab State Branch in collaboration with Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, 172 students and

teachers donated blood. The camp organised at the college campus was inaugurated by D.S. Mangat, DPI (Colleges). Earlier, a talk on safe blood donation was also held by the Red Cross Society.

Teachers’ rally at Banur put off
The teachers’ rally to be held at Banur tomorrow has been postponed considering the positive outcome of a meeting of a delegation of Punjab and Chandigarh College Teacher’s Union and Punjab Finance Minister Kanwaljit Singh today. The delegation led by Prof S.S. Hundal met the Minister to draw his attention towards the pending demands of teachers for implementation of the pension-gratuity scheme and revision of pay-scales.

Frequent power cuts criticised
The Citizens’ Welfare Association, Panchkula, has flayed frequent and unannounced power cuts in the township, which is causing inconvenience to residents. A statement issued here added that no action is taken on complaints lodged with the electricity office. The association has also urged the authorities to increase the number of staff on duty at complaint centres to cater to the residents’ requirements.

Pulse Polio drive
As many as 2,073 children were immunised in the drive against polio yesterday by the Lions Club, Mohali. The International Association of Lions Region IX and X administered polio drops to 37,442 children, according to Satish Seth, the association’s spokesperson. In Roopnagar district, 1,33,856 children were given the polio drops yesterday.
