PUNE, NOV 28: From November 21 to 27, as many as seven persons lost their lives in different road mishaps reported from the city and Pimpri-Chinchwad.Gajanan D Kalapure, a 31-year-old employee of the Hindustan Antibiotics, was killed when a bus carrying the workers of a Bhosari-based company dashed his motorbike at Nashik Phata on Mumbai-Pune Highway on November 21. Bhosari police said Kalapure, a resident of Pimprigaon, was heading towards Pune when the bus which was turning towards Bhosari MIDC dashed his motorbike.
The profusely bleeding victim was shifted to the Yeshwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital at Sant Tukaram Nagar in Pimpri. He was proclaimed dead on arrival at the hospital.
Adhikrao Vasant Shevale (22) of Viman Nagar was killed on the spot when a tempo brushed aside his cycle near the Navlakha Petrol Pump on Pune-Ahmednagar Road on November 23.
Police said Shevale was riding towards Chandan Nagar when the tempo which was heading towards Pune from Ahmednagar side brushed aside his scooter. The tempo driver fled after the mishap. Shevale, who hailed from Upale village in Khanapur tehsil of Sangli district, worked as watchman at a society in Viman Nagar, the police said.
A scooterist was killed on the spot and three seriously injured when a tanker lost control near Kharalwadi on the Pune-Mumbai Road on November 23.
Police said that the mishap occurred as the brakes of the tanker failed, due to which it first rammed the scooterist, Haji Abdul Sattar Khan (55), who died on the spot. The tanker then hit Bheema Maruti Mane (42), who was riding a moped, and motorcyclist Nagnath Shetty and his son Santosh, who have been admitted to the Yeshwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital.
A 35-year-old autorickshaw driver was killed on the spot while his passenger was injured when their autorickshaw dashed against a State Transport bus at the chowk opposite the Balgandharva Rangmandir on Jangli Maharaj Road early on November 25.
The identity of the dead autorickshaw driver was ascertained by the Deccan Gymkhana police as Raju Tukaram Vidhate, a resident of Dias Plot slums. According to the police, Vidhate was heading towards Deccan Gymkhana from Shivajinagar when his autorickshaw dashed against the State Transport bus proceeding in the same direction. Vidhate was apparently trying to overtake the bus at the time of accident, they added.
Mubaraq Yusuf Pathan, a 51-year-old woman from the Geetanjali Housing Society on Bhau Patil Road in Bopodi, lost her life in a mishap caused due to the alleged negligent driving by a Pune Municipal Transport (PMT) bus driver on Aundh Road on November 25.
The police said Pathan died after she fell from a PMT bus which started moving while she was boarding it at a bus stop on Aundh Road. The accident took place because the bus driver took off while the passengers were still boarding the bus, they added.
One person was killed on the spot while one was seriously injured when a truck dashed their M-80 near the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) headquarters on the Mumbai-Pune Highway on November 26. The identity of the deceased was ascertained by Pimpri police as Chogaram Khaatramji Chaudhari (25) of Dapodi. The injured, Hiralal Pukaji Chaudhari of Dapodi, has been hospitalised.
Police said Chogaram was riding pillion on Hiralal’s M 80 when the truck dashed against their moped and sped away.
Laxman M Chavan (29) of Jaybhavani Nagar who was injured in a mishap on November 25 succumbed to his injuries the next day. Police said Chavan was hospitalised after his scooter skidded near Amrapali Petrol Pump at Bibwewadi on the Pune-Satara Road.
