
Govind Swarup shifted shifted to General Admn department
MUMBAI: Controversial bureaucrat Govind Swarup was today relieved from the cultural affairs department. “Swarup has been shifted to the General Administration Department (GAD),” Chief Minister Manohar Joshi told mediapersons. Swarup was in the eye of a controversy over his reference to Mohammad Ali Jinnah in a video film prepared for the golden jubilee celebrations of India’s independence. Swarup had described Jinnah as “a great patriot”. Subsequently, he tendered an unconditional apology for his remarks.
State Services exam on October 31
The list of candidates who have qualified in the State Services (preliminary) Examination 1997 held on June 1, has been put up on the notice board of the office of the commission and offices of the collectors concerned. The State Services (main) examinations will be held in Mumbai, Aurangabad, Nagpur and Pune centres on October 31. Eligible candidates are required to send in their applications to the commission by August 25. Those who do not get their forms by August 20, should contact the office of the Commission at Vikrikar Bhavan, 9th floor, Sardar Balwantsingh Dodhi Marg, Mazgaon, Mumbai 10.
Compensation for PWG victims
Family members of the five jawans killed by the banned Peoples War Group at Gadchiroli will be paid a compensation of Rs 25,000 each. Funds to the tune of Rs 1.25 lakh have already been deposited with the Guardian minister of Gadchiroli, Gajanan Kirtikar by Chief Minister Manohar Joshi.
Education Inspector’s office shifted

New sports included for schools
New sports have been included in the school sports competition to be held by district sports, Mumbai Suburban district, during the academic year of 1997-98. The competition will now include football and cricket for girls, and carrom, throwball and boxing for both girls and boys. The competition will be open to those under the age of 19. Interested students from schools and junior colleges should send their applications alongwith an entry fee of Rs 15 per sport to the office of the District Sports Officer, Mumbai Suburban, upto August 25, 1997.
