Despite a BJP walkout with members pointing out that the matter was pending in the Supreme Court, the Mulayam Singh government today passed a resolution in the state Assembly to re-include Hardwar and Udham Singh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh. The proposal will now be sent to the Centre for its approval.

In the 2000 bifurcation , Hardwar and Udham Singh Nagar had gone to Uttaranchal. This had been objected to by UP.

BJP leader Lalji Tandon reminded the government that under Rule 195 (7), any issue pending in SC cannot be raised

in the House. But Revenue Minister Ambika Chowdhary brushed it aside: ‘‘The House is superiormost, and can therefore raise any issue.’’
