India on Wednesday announced relief assistance of US$ 1,00,000 for the victims of the earthquake that shook south Kyrgyzstan on January 3, 2008. This was conveyed by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee to the visiting Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Ednan Karabaev.

Both sides welcomed the growing investment partnerships between Indian and Kyrgyz companies in several sectors such as mining and processing of minerals and metals, leather manufacturing and food processing, and agreed to work to substantially raise the level of mutual trade.

Karabaev appreciated the commissioned and ongoing India-assisted projects in the Kyrgyz Republic. An India-Kyrgyz Centre of Information Technology was inaugurated on August 15, 2007, at Bishkek. Setting up of Potato Processing Plant and Mountain Medical Research Centre in the Kyrgyz Republic with assistance from India is in advanced stage of planning and is to be implemented shortly. Karabaev, who was on an official visit to India from February 4 to 6, held delegation-level talks on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual concern.
