Consensus on key issues evaded India and Bangladesh as the homes secretaries of the two countries, who are meeting in New Delhi, talked past each other.

With PM Manmohan Singh expected to attend the SAARC summit, which begins on November 12, India did not push issues beyond a point. On the other hand, with Bangladesh going to polls next year, the BNP-led government that has adopted a hardline against India, also continued to maintain its stand.

Bangladesh stuck to its stand on crucial issues like illegal migration, north-eastern terrorist organisations operating out of Bangladesh and border fencing. Moreover, it blamed India for housing Bangladeshi criminals .

Despite the overwhelming evidence being presented, Bangladesh has denied that terrorist organisations like the ULFA and PLA, UNLF and ATTF have camps in Syllet and Chittagong Hill Tracts. They have also denied that there was large-scale illegal migration.
