NEW DELHI, July 28: The Indian carrom team won a hat-trick of titles in the third international Carrom Federation Cup tournament in Luton (England), last week. After topping its group, India defeated Maldives in the first semifinal while Sri Lanka defeated Germany in the other semifinal.

In the final, India blanked Sri Lanka 3-0. Two-time world champion Maria Irudayam defeated Viraj Fernando 19-15, 20-9, Nagsen Etambe got past MTM Hilmy 25-14, 17-13 and in the third singles, Maghimai Raj defeated Langley Mathiasz 25-16, 25-7.

In the individual final, which was an all-Indian affair, Maghimai Raj defeated national champion Nagsen Etambe 25-23, 25-6, to win the title. In the semifinals, Raj defeated fellow Indian Irudayam 13-25, 25-11, 25-6, and Etambe defeated J Valentine 23-25, 25-10, 25-4.
