NEW DELHI:

The YMCA invitational boxing championships, starting here on Friday, will be a low key affair this year with the organisers reversing to domestic format as they were unable to raise sufficient funds to hold the annual international competition.

Over 320 boxers from all over the country will fight it out in Senior, Junior and Sub-junior sections of the seven-day tournament. Competitions will be held in 12 weight categories in the senior and junior sections, while the sub-juniors will fight it out in 13 weight categories of five age groups.

PCA case to close

CHANDIGARH: A Chandigarh court has allowed closure of a case against Punjab government, involving transfer of state land to the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) at Mohali to construct stadium.

A case was registered by the CBI against `unknown officials’ of the state government, but the investigating agency could not provide evidence to prove the alleged irregularities, prompting the District and Sessions judge BS Bedi to allow the withdrawal.

AV Birla Golf

CALCUTTA: A host of top amateur golfers and corporate captains will be seen in action, in the AV Birla Golf Tournament of the Millennium, to be held at the Tollygunge Club on March 25.

Leading amateur golfers like Alan Singh, Sanjeev Mehra, Lakshman Singh, Sudeep Chitlangia and Vikram Singh have confirmed participation in the meet, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Pushpendra Singh told a press conference here today. He said several corporate captains, including Yogi Deveshwar, BP Bajoria and Madan Singh, will also take part in the 18-hole meet.
