Raju to lead
HYDERABAD :
Former Test player SL Venkatapathy Raju will lead Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy cricket quarter-finals against Uttar Pradesh to be played at Green Park in Kanpur from March 30 to April 4.
Team: SL Venkatpathi Raju (captain), VVS Laxman (vice-captain), Vanka Pratap, Nanda Kishore, D Vinay Kumar, Parth Satwalkar, Kanwaljit Singh, Narenderpal Singh, Arjun Yadav, Riaz Sheikh, Youraj Singh, Fiaz Ahmed, Anirudh Singh, Daniel Mahonar and Raghuram. Coach- Arshad Ayub, Manager- Mohanlal Gupta, Physio- Venkateshwarlu.

Tennis camp
BANGALORE:
A conditioning camp for senior and promising tennis players to prepare for tournaments including

the Davis Cup tie against South Korea next month, is in full swing at the Tennis Village run by former international Krishna Bhupathy.
The camp, first of its kind, is organised by the All-India Tennis Association to help the players iron out flaws in their game before they embark on the heavy tournament schedule. The players include Davis Cupper Prahlad Srinath, new recruit Vishal Uppal, reserve Vijay Kannan, Mustafa Ghouse, Manoj Mahadevan, Rohan Bopanna and Shivshankar Kanbargimath.

Shiv Prakash wins
MHOW:
Kanpur’s Shiv Prakash fought off a strong fight from Mukesh and Vijay Kumar to win the Eicher Central India Open Golf. The winner finished with a four-day tally of one under 274.
Mukesh kumar took second spot at level par-276, Vijay Kumar finisehd third at three over-279 and DS Raghuvanshi stood four at seven over-283.

State teams in final
FARIDABAD:
Maharashtra boys and girls teams chalked out contrasting victories to move into the finals of 28th Junior National and Inter-state Carrom Championship.
Maharashtra boys blanked Delhi 3-0 to set up a title clash with Tamil Nadu, who overpowered Vidhrabha 3-0. In the girls’ team final, Maharashtra will play Madhya Pradesh. Maharashtra downed Vidhrabha while Madhya Pradesh ousted Bihar by identical 2-1 margins.

Services boxer to the fore
NEW DELHI:
Former Junior National champion Satish Kumar (NAVY) outboxed S Gaharin Singh (KAR) in the welter weight category to move into the semi-final of the 22nd YMCA Coca Cola All-India Invitation Boxing Championship. The fight for the welter title will be an all Services affair as three other boxers who completed the semi-final line up in this division are from MEG, Army and Air-Force.
D Bhagya Rajan of Madras Engineering Group (MEG) made short work of Shiv Om Jai Bhagwan of (BEG). Amry’s K Nitayi Singh knocked out Akhliesh Gajja (Northern Railway) in the third round and Air-Force’s K Haridas Singh sent Phul Kumar (ISTC) reeling in the third round.

WR win
BHOPAL:
Western Railway of Mumbai knocked out Army Signal Corps of Jalandhar from the 62nd All-India Obaidullah Khan Gold Cup hockey tournament at the Aishbagh Stadium with a 2-1 victory in a second round match.
Shahjahanpur XI from Uttar Pradesh defeated Delhi XI 6-4 via tie-breaker.

Railways lead
JORHAT:
Indian Railways bowled out Air-India for 208, gaining a first innings lead of 145 runs on the second day of the three-day 24th Senior National Women’s Cricket Championship final here.
But A-I claimed two wickets in the Railways’ second innings. The Railways ended the day on 13 for two in nine overs.

Railways men best
VISAKHAPATNAM:
Indian Railways with 59 points in men’s section and West Bengal with 65 points in women’s section bagged the team championship in power lifting on the concluding day of the two-day seventh Federation Cup power lifting championship at the Swarnabharati Indoor Stadium.
Tamil Nadu men finished second with 50 points while Andhra Pradesh were third with 39 points. Punjab women with 47 points and Andhra Pradesh with 33 were second and third respectiovely.
