Indian captain to be named on Oct 15

MUMBAI: The captain of the Indian cricket team for the nine-nation Wills International Cup at Dhaka (Bangladesh) and Coca Cola tri-nation tourney (both one-day events) at Sharjah would be named at Ahmedabad on October 15.

The team for both the tournaments would be picked at Ahmedabad on October 18 as scheduled after the end of the Challenger Series, informed Jaywant Lele, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, today.

No Ranji at J&K

NEW DELHI: No North Zone Ranji Trophy matches will be conducted at Jammu and Kashmir this year. This has been stated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to all units of North Zone. With the political situation remaining tense in the valley, the BCCI is reported to have decided to shift all matches away from the valley.

CHENNAI: India defeated Pakistan 3-0 to register their first win in three matches in the league phase from Group B in the ninth Junior AsianVolleyball Championship being held at Tehran. According to a fax message received by Volleyball Federation of India, India won 15-12, 15-7, 15-12.

This was India’s first victory in the group. They got a walkover from Kazakhstan and suffered a 8-15, 15-8, 10-15, 15-10, 13-15 against Taipei in the second match on Friday.
