Harbhajan bound for England

The secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jaywant Lele, told PTI

that the details of who would accompany him and when were still awaited. “We should get a clear picture by November first week,” he said.

The 18-year-old Harbhajan was left out of the Dhaka-bound Indian team on an International Cricket Council (ICC) directive after the ICC match referees Peter van der Merwe of South Africa and Ranjan Madugalle of Sri Lanka had given adverse reports on the offie’s bowling action.

Either Erapalli Prasanna or S Venkataraghavan are likely to accompany Harbhajan to England, it is learnt.

Award for Mohanty

BHUBANESWAR: Debasish Mohanty will receive the Ekalabya Award for 1998 for excellence in sports.

The award, instituted by the Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPACT) and managed by the IMFA Group of Companies, carries a citation and Rs 30,000 in cash, a release said here today.
