HYDERABAD: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu granted a computer to the world under-10 chess champion Koneru Hampi, who called on him at his Jubilee Hills residence, today.
The Vijayawada girl won the world title at Cannes, France, recently.The latest chess prodigy from the state is the first Indian girl to claim this honour.

Mistry captain
MUMBAI: Arjun Mistry will lead the Mumbai under-16 cricket team for the All-India Vijay Merchant Trophy knock-out tournament to be played at Nagpur from January 4 to 15.

State victorious
PUNE: Maharashtra claimed the overall team title in the 35th National Roller Skating Championship, that concluded at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex here today.
The hosts secured 606 points to win the championship, while last year’s winners Andhra Pradesh garnered 539 points to be placed second. Gujarat (458) were third.
Punjab boys won the sub-junior (defeating Jammu and Kashmir) and junior (beating Haryana) rink hockey titles. Maharashtra eves defeated J & K 5-0 to bag the title in sub-junior section, while in the senior girls category, Haryana prevailed over Jammu and Kashmir 5-4.

Aussies to play
INDORE: The Australian cricketers will open their 53-day tour of India with a three-day match against Mumbai, the Ranji Trophy champions, at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on February 24.
The Aussies, who are to arrive at Mumbai on February 21, would play three Tests at Chennai, Bangalore and Cuttack, besides playing two other three-day tour matches before taking part in the Triangular One-day series with India and Zimbabwe in April.

Central champs
INDORE: Central Command has been emerged champion of the 29th Army Rifle Association Shooting championship which concluded at Infantry School on Wednesday at Mhow near here. Besides winning the 88th Carnatic Infantry Memorial Gold Cup and the Ara Banner, champions Central Command also won the General Chaudhary Trophy, Bhandari Trophy and K V Krishna Rao Trophy in the championship.

Tourney put off
NEW DELHI: The 14th Youth National Basketball Championship scheduled to be held at Behrampur (Orissa) from January 14 to 19 has been postponed. Host Orissa Basketball Association has expressed its inability to conduct the championship on scheduled dates.
Basketball Federation of India (BFI) secretary J P Mishra said new dates will be announced later.
