MUMBAI: World number one Jansher Khan of Pakistan has confirmed his entry for the $ 110,000 Mahindra International Squash Challenge to be held at the Cricket Club of India (CCI) here from December 1-6.

Jansher has never played in previous editions of the Mahindra Challenge citing security concerns.

Australian Rodney Eyles and Scotland’s Peter Nicol, the world number two and three who are the main contenders to snatch the world men’s crown in the ongoing World Open at Kuala Lumpur in the absence of last year’s winner Jansher, have also sent in their entries for the Mumbai event.

CHENNAI: Viswanathan Anand will play in the International Grandmasters Chess Tournament to be held in Investbanka, Belgrade, from November 10 to 21.Besides Anand, Grandmasters Vladimir Kramnik, Boris Gelfand, Alexei Shirov, Vassily Ivanchuk, Joel Lautier, Yugoslav Ljubomir Ljubojevic, Alexander Beliavski, Kiril Georgijev and Vlado Kovacevic will take part in this nine-round category-17 FIDE rated tournament. The organisers are doing a special documentary on Anand as part of the promotion of the tournament which will be the last major before the World Championships which will begin at Groningen in December.

Simpson referee

MUMBAI: Former Australian skipper and coach Bob Simpson is to be the International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee for the forthcoming Test and One-Day International series between India and Sri Lanka.

Lanka are to tour India to play three Tests between November 19-December 7 and three One-Day Internationals between December 22-28.
