Earlier Report
ST VINCENT, April 30: India, facing a daunting task of scoring five runs per over for victory, were placed at 88 for one after 20 overs in the third One-Day International match here today.
West Indies had scored 249 for nine in their allotted 50 overs with opener Stuart Williams top scoring with 76.
Williams raised 60 runs for the second wicket with Brian Lara (33) after the early fall of Shivnarine Chanderpaul, leg before to Abey Kuruvilla. After the departure of Lara and Jimmy Adams, Williams and Carl Hooper added 86 for the fourth wicket.
Medium-pacer Kuruvilla turned out with the best figures conceding just 34 runs for the wicket of Chanderpaul. Off-spinner Noel David, who impressed with teasing spell and three wicket in the second one-dayer, bowled his 10 overs for 38 runs and the scalp of Jimmy Adams.
The Indian innings suffered an early setback when Sachin Tendulkar was bowled by Courtney Walsh for just 9 runs in the fifth over.
But fellow opener Saurav Ganguly (batting 33) and one-drop batsman Rahul Dravid (batting 35) have put their heads together and batted in the most sensible manner to give India hope.
