AURANGABAD:The XIIIth National Children Chess Championship concluded here on Monday with Andhra Pradesh children clinching titles in all age categories except the under-7 boys. Dronovali Harika and Dasari Sai Srinivas (7.5 pts each) were the champions in the under-9 girls and boys section respectively. Gauri Shankar (Kel) and K Phani Chandra (AP) claimed the boys and girls titles in the under-7 category.

CALCUTTA: Sports Authority of India has adopted the Namchi Senior Boys’ Secondary School at soccer star Baichung Bhutia’s village Namchi in Sikkim as part of its talent search programme. SAI eastern centre director Somen Chaudhuri told newspersons that two other schools — Khamarpara Boys in West Bengal and Chatakachari Senior Boys in Tripura — have been adopted under the programme. Under the scheme, 25 selected students in each school would be given Rs 8,000 each annually. Of the amount, Rs 5000 would be given as stipend, Rs 1500 as competition expenses and Rs 1500 as kitallowance.
