Cricket treat on the anvil
MUMBAI:
Zee TV will telecast an eight-part serial which will recapture the magic of Indian cricketers like Col CK Nayudu, Mohammed Nissaar, Lala Amarnath, Vijay Merchant, Vijay Hazare, Vijay Manjrekar, Vinoo Mankad, the spin quartet of Erapalli Prasanna, Bishan Bedi, Bhagwat Chandrashekar and S Venkatraghavan, Sunil Gavaskar, Gundappa Vishwanath, Kapil Dev and Sachin Tendulkar, to name a few in the galaxy of greats.

The eight part serial, anchored by Ajay Jadeja and featuring Geoff Boycott, will ask viewers to select the Indian Cricketer of the Millennium. The serial starts Sunday at 12.30 pm.

Jockey turns trainer
BANGALORE:
Champion Jockey of 1999, Satish Narredu, announced his retirement, ending a riding career spanning 23 years. The announcement comes in the wake of the offer from Turf baron MAM Ramaswamy, whose horses Narredu rode for the last five years, for assistant trainership under Jim Foley.

Narredu rode 970 winners in his career. He won his firstclassic on Great Spectacle at the Ooty Colts Trial Stakes in 1995 before winning the Ooty Derby on the same horse the same year. He has the record for riding the most number of winners in a season — 100 races in 1997-98 Madras season.

AAFI meet put off
NEW DELHI:
The National under-22 athletic meet, scheduled to be held in Imphal, has been postponed to next month following the recent cyclone that has affected eastern states. The meet will now be held on December 2 and 3.

Pune to host
PUNE: The Pune Junior Tennis Circuit and PYC Gymkhana will jointly host the Hero Honda junior National ranking tennis tournament from November 13-20. The tournament will be held in the boys and girls under-14 and 16 age groups.

The junior state ranking tennis tourney will also be conducted simultaneously for boys and girls under-10, 12 and 18 age groups.

Manipur rout Goa
NEW DELHI: Khalsa Academy(Amritsar), Paradise Academy (Manipur) and Boys Sports Company, Danapur, scored emphatic wins in league matches of the Nehru-ONGC sub-junior hockey.

The Amritsar team beat Children’s Academy Higher Secondary School (Bhopal) 12-1 while Manipur swamped Fr Agnel High School Pilar (Goa) 17-0. Boys Sports Coy beat Piloo Modi High School, Narukot (Gujarat) 14-0.
