Kanetkar bows out
BANGALORE: India’s number two, Nikhil Kanetkar, bowed out in the quarter-finals of the Spanish Open to Henrik Bengston of Sweden 10-15, 10-15 at Seville, according to the Badminton Association of India (BAI) here.Gopi Chand, Kanetkar, Siddarth Jain and Meenakshi will now play in the Scottish Open next weekend at Edinburgh.

CHENNAI: India’s Narain Karthikeyan managed to finish sixth in the second race after being shunted off the track in the first, for an overall 11th position in the Formula 3 World Cup double-header at Macau on Sunday.The first race of 15 laps had two restarts following collisions among the cars, according to reports reaching here. In the second race, Narain, having kept his poise despite the accident earlier, came in sixth. Expectedly, Darren Manning, driving the quickest car on the grid, won the race followed by Jenson Button.
Jadeja departure
MUMBAI: Injured middle-order batsman Ajay Jadeja could not leave for South Africatoday following delay in issuance of visa, and will now leave on Tuesday for treatment of his right shoulder by Johannesburg-based specialist Dr Mark Ferguson.
Cricket board executive secretary Sharad Diwadkar said here today that Jadeja would get his visa tomorrow and will leave for South Africa the next day.
Sourav qualifies
CALCUTTA: City lad Sourav Sukul carved out an upset victory over fourth seed Velmurugan Annamalai to qualify for the main draw of the ITF Junior Tennis Championship at the DKS Complex here today.
The left-handed Sukul played a consistent game to down Annamalai 6-4, 6-7 (7-9), 6-3 in a keenly contested match to make it to the main draw. Jai Arora, Md Ali Salman and Siddharth Sudhakar were the three other qualifiers.
