Paient’s at an Australian hospital have refused to be treated by several of the Indian-trained medical staff after two Indian doctors employed there were questioned in connection with the failed terror plots in UK.
This, despite the fact that Gold Coast Hospital staff have released a statement in support of one of the two doctors, Mohammed Asif Ali, who was released by police without any charges after questioning. The second doctor, Mohamed Haneef, has been in police custody since Monday night.
Queensland Health Minister Stephen Robertson admitted that a few of the hospital’s employees had been subject to racist behaviour. “They’re pretty bruised,” Robertson said. “It’s not the Australian way,” he added, condemning such behaviour.
While Robertson defended Ali, he refused to pass comment on Haneef, saying his case was a matter for the Australian Federal Police.
