MUMBAI, JULY 31: Asian champions India started their campaign disastrously losing by 81 runs to hosts England their opening tie of the Cost Cutter World (Under-15) Challenge 2000 in England yesterday
Replying to the hosts’ respectable score of 245 for nine from their stipulated 50 overs, India were bundled out for a paltry 164 in 47 overs, according to information received here today.
England started their innings losing two early wickets with just 12 runs on the board. However, a 115-run third-wicket stand between opening batsman James Hildreth (57)
Palhas Jyothi Das picked up three English wickets conceding just 24 runs from his seven overs while P A V N Raju, Irfan Pathan and Rajesh Banik took a wicket each.
Alastair Cooke (1), Tim Rees (39) and Tom New (15) were run out needlessly but the hosts still managed to put up a respectable score.
Medium pacers Chris Goode (4-22) and Dan Broadbent (3-23) sent the Indians reeling at 164 all out with still three overs to go. The slide started after Indian openers Ambali Rayudu (34) and Abhinav Kumar (28) put on 43 runs for the opening wicket. Once the opening pair was separated, the Indians, lost wickets at regular intervals to go down tamely.
