An Indian student has been arrested for allegedly sending an e-mail in which he threatened to detonate a nuclear device on the university campus.

Purdue University student Rajesh G. Manyar (23) of West Lafayette was today held in Tippercanoe County Jail, Indiana on a US $5,000 bond for ‘‘false informing’’.

He could face up to three years in prison if convicted. Police said Manyar confessed to sending the e-mail threat on March 7 to the office of the Vice President for Student Services.

Manyar allegedly sent the threat by using another student’s e-mail account, police said. The incident is under investigation, and federal authorities have been notified.
