ALLAHABAD, FEB 28: India’s hold continued for the second day as the hosts made a sweep of gold and silver medals at stake today in the first SAARC Gymnastics Championships at the Boys High School compound here.

The Indians collected 10 sets of gold and silver — six men and four women — in the apparatus competitions to swell their tally to 12 gold and 10 silver medals. With the rules not permitting more than two per event per country, India’s clean sweep was halted as Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh shared the bronze medals on offering today.

The gold and silver medals in the apparatus championships was already assured even before the start. The point of interest was narrowed to only one thing: who among Vikas Pandey and Rohit Yadav would turn out the best. And both the local boys won two gold each but the former also clinched two silver medals to one by Yadav to prove his superiority.
