India will need a convincing victory margin of 6-0 or 5-1 in the forthcoming One-Day International series against Pakistan, if it is to move up the LG ICC ODI Championship table from its current eighth position.

A 6-0 win would see it rise three places into fifth, moving ahead of England, the West Indies and Pakistan in the process.

A 5-1 margin would be enough to secure seventh position, ahead of England.

Pakistan goes into the six match series, which begins in Kochi on Saturday, as the fourth placed team on the table.

A substantial series win for the visiting team would move it closer to third placed New Zealand, but even a 6-0 clean sweep would not be enough for them to overtake Stephen Fleming’s team, which currently holds a seven point advantage over Pakistan.

A 3-3 drawn series would keep both teams in their current positions, with Pakistan dropping one rating point (109 to 108) and India gaining two points (98 to 100), taking it closer to England in seventh position.

ICC ODI Championship table:
Australia (140), Sri Lanka (117), New Zealand (116), Pakistan (109), South Africa (107), West Indies (105), England (103), India (98), Zimbabwe (50), Kenya (26), Bangladesh (11).
