CHANDIGARH, NOV 21: An infant boy in Gwala Colony, near Manimajra, died here today, due to the cold conditions. The residents of the colony have been living in make-shift houses, ever since their houses were demolished by the Administration on October 27.

The boy, born to Baljeet Kaur, who had come from Amritsar to her parents house in Gwala Colony for her first delivery, died soon after his birth, past midnight yesterday. Baljeet Kaur’ s parents were engaged in the business of selling milk.

According to Balwinder Kaur, the grandmother of the victim, the child had turned blue by the time the doctor arrived early in the morning. She said, "Even though we lit some fire to heat up the room temperatures, the boy could not survive." She said that they had been living in sub-human conditions ever since their houses were demolished.
