A day after the Government came up with conflicting claims on infiltration, the Army continued to maintain that infiltration was on the upswing. Army headquarters pointed out that troops from the Rashtriya Rifles had foiled an infiltration bid in the Naugam sector of J-K last night and killed 12 terrorists in the night-long operation.

Army Chief Gen N.C. Vij welcomed the Army’s efforts saying that its operations will ensure that terrorists were on the run in Kashmir.

‘‘We are conducting operations to keep up the pressure and had it not been for support from our neighbours we would have wiped out terrorism,’’ he said. Speaking on the sidelines of a function to felicitate visiting children from the North-East, Vij said that reports from Kashmir were encouraging.

On his recent visit to Bhutan, Vij expressed hope the Bhutanese government will take action against terrorist camps believed to be there. He also extended India’s support to Bhutan in conducting anti-terrorist operations.
