NEW DELHI, March 22: The annual rate of inflation remained unchanged at the previous week’s level of 5.07 per cent making it the fourth consecutive week without an increase in wholesale prices.

It may be recalled that inflation had shed .12 percentage points and stood at 5.07 per cent during the last week ending Feburary 28.

The week under review (March 7, 1998) saw the prices of wheat, tea, gram, barley, and eggs register a decline even as prices of bajra, fruits and vegetables registered a marginal increase.

The current level of inflation is the lowest till now during this year.

The official wholesale price index for `all commodities’ (base 1981-82=100) for the week stood at 337.5 (provisional) as against 337.6 (provisional) for the previous week. Meanwhile, the annual rate of inflation for the week ended January 10 based on final index calculated on a point to point basis stood at 6 per cent as against 5.7 per cent computed on the basis of provisional index for the week.
