Infosys has called back all the 60 students it recruited from IIT, Powai, last year and later rejected. The leading IT company’s decision has been a big relief to the students who received deferment letters last month after bagging offer letters in January. The lucky 60 now have a reason to jubilate, finally bidding farewell to job hunts and sleepless nights.Ashwini Tank, one of the 60, said: ‘‘After weeks of sleeplessness, I finally slept soundly last night.’’ Tank came to know of the letter on May 9. ‘‘I ran to the placement office to confirm the news. The first thing I did was call up my parents in Jaipur. My mom immediately said ‘Ab to ghar aa jaa (Come home now)’.’’Tank said he was unable to return home because he was busy hunting for a job. ‘‘When I received the news, I was preparing my resume to apply to some company. It has been left incomplete,’’ he said. Most of the 60 students were angry with Infosys after it sent offer letters in January, when most companies were already sending letters of deferment. Infosys’ deferment letters came last month, when other placements had already closed, leaving students with no option.Rohan Gupta from Jaipur said: ‘‘It’s like getting two jobs with the same company. Going and checking the confirmation letter sent to the placement office a second time was deja vu. I couldn’t believe it and felt they were playing hide and seek.’’ Gupta was finally at ease when he rang up home and heard that a personal confirmation letter with the date of joining had reached home.As many as 58 of the 60 have been told to join on August 12 and the two M. Tech students have been told to report on June 10.
