Making a case for the removal of Haryana Governor Babu Parmanand, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is preparing a list of instances where he had brazenly indulged in politics even prior to his seeking votes for Prime Minister Vajpayee from the Dalits at Rewari last week.
INLD sources said the party would meet President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam in a day or two with a memorandum against the Governor. INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala today confirmed that he would go to the President against the Governor.
Chautala, reacting to The Indian Express report of Babu Parmanand’s remarks, said he was pained to read about the Governor’s conduct and would seek the President’s intervention in the case. ‘‘This is a very serious matter,’’ he remarked after a rally at Bahadurgarh.
‘‘The memorandum has instances of two years when the Governor had caused embarrassment for the government by openly indulging in politics,’’ a close aide of the CM said.
One incident which had made headlines in the local media last year happened at Karnal. Sources said that while addressing Dalits, the Governor said polls were all about ‘‘votan, notan and sota (votes, notes and sticks)’’.
The Governor had been advised by the administration against attending the Rewari function in view of clashes between two groups of organisers. He ignored the advice, sources said.
