There are plans to send India’s injured hockey star, Jugraj Singh, to the US for physiotherapy and rehabilitation. A proposal to the US Olympic Committee will be sent on Wednesday by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to help the injured drag-flicker, who is recovering in a Ludhiana hospital after suffering multiple fractures in a car crash earlier this month.

IOA secretary-general Randhir Singh said the has IOA decided to send a proposal to the USOC after seeking expert advice from doctors who are currently treating the hockey star. ‘‘The doctors told us that the recovery facilities in Colarado Springs are the best in the world, Singh told The Indian Express today.

The IOA, apart from sending a request to the USOC, will also approach the chief of the US Medical Council to assist Jugraj’s recovery. ‘‘We are writing to Ed Ryan, who is the chief of the USOC’s Medical Council in Colorado Springs. Since IOA is making the request, I hope the USOC won’t have any problem in allowing their chief doctor take the responsibility,” he said.

Meanwhile, the sport ministry today made it clear that money would not be a hindrance in the treatment of the player, who has been ruled out of action for at least three to four months due to the injury. ‘‘The ministry has already released Rs 1 lakh to meet the player’s immediate needs,’’ RK Mishra, joint secretary in the Sports Ministry told an agency.
