A theft of computer random access memories (RAMs) and processors rocked the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation’s (IRCTC) office at Parliament Street today. The incident took place just a day after IRCTC Managing Director P K Goyal was asked to proceed on leave by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav after the Delhi High Court pulled up IRCTC for serving unhygenic food on trains.
In addition to the monetary loss, the theft has also led to the loss of valuable data relating to the Corporation’s plans and activities. The incident has even led to various conspiracy
theories.
Confirming the incident, IRCTC officials said the theft was discovered this morning when the office was opened. “Around 35-37 RAMs and a similar number of processors have been stolen from the office. The total loss is to the tune of Rs 3-4 lakh,” an IRCTC official told The Indian Express. An FIR has been lodged. The police have also collected fingerprints from the area.
Meanwhile, the IRCTC today came out with the results of a survey conducted by the Indian Market Research Bureau (IMRB) on customer satisfaction. Evaluating aspects relating to compartments, bedrolls, food and refreshment and staff behaviour, IMRB has given a 60 per cent rating to 62 out of the 77 trains examined in the first round of the survey, an IRCTC statement said. Passengers travelling in all classes were included in the survey in a bid to get an all-round opinion.
