Head constable Laxman Girdhar Parmar, who was hit with a pipe on the head and shoulder while on duty at the main gate of the garba venue in Sector 11 in Gandhinagar on Tuesday night, is sure that one of the minister’s son attacked him.

‘‘It was one of Fakir Vaghela’s sons who hit me with the pipe. I do not know his name, but can recognise him,’’ said Parmar on Thursday. He is undergoing treatment in the Gandhinagar Civil Hospital.

Describing the incident, Parmar said that he, along with three other policemen, was standing at the main entrance when he heard shouting inside: ‘‘About 20 persons came rushing out. They were hitting each other. Some of them had pipes and sticks.”

Parmar recognised Prithviraj, one of the garba organisers, and tried to intervene. ‘‘One of the two brothers hit me with a pipe. I turned around and he hit me again on the left shoulder,’’ Parmar said.

He began bleeding and felt giddy. ‘‘I did not see them go inside. They definitely did not enter through the main gate,’’ Parmar said.

Arjun Vanjhara, one of the organisers, added, ‘‘Jitu, Alpesh and others came in from the exit. They just forced their way inside, and when one of the volunteers asked for passes, they assaulted him.’’
