New Delhi, March 29: In a top level reshuffle at tobacco major ITC Ltd, Kurush N Grant is tipped to take additional charge of sales. Grant is currently the head of brands in ITC’s tobacco division.
Company sources said that the restructuring is aimed at filling up the void created by Kamal Ramnath’s death in November, 1996.
Though it is yet to be officially announced, it appears that Grant will be taking over a role similar to that of Ramnath, who held a chief executive status in ITC’s tobacco division, sources added.

According to sources, Ramnath’s post in the tobacco division is yet to filled. His responsibilities are been carried out by Anup Singh, chairman of the tobacco board.
Before Ramnath’s death all the heads of various departments, who were also members in the board, used to report to him directly. But since Singh took over, a parallel structure of hierarchy has been followed with respective heads directly reporting to the board.
It is believed that after the reshuffle of portfolios, thecorporate hierarchy in the tobacco division would be once more be pyramidical with two general managers (brand and sales) directly reporting to Grant.
Interestingly, ITC is also filling up the post of general manager, brands, which has been vacant for some time.

Currently, Grant reports directly to the board of the tobacco division regarding brands and his counterpart in sales is Udyan Lall, who is the head of trade, marketing and development.
The restructuring, however, assumes significance in the wake of the recent launch of BAT brands Benson and Hedges and the forthcoming launch of 555.
Significantly, BAT’s worldwide corporate structure has a pyramidical shape as against the system being followed in ITC currently.
