PUNE, Dec 22: Is the gruesome killing of Navi Mumbai corporator Meena More a “women’s issue” alone? Apparently yes, according to the Leader of the House in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Chandrakant Chhajed.
The otherwise vocal elected representatives sat throughout the proceedings, preferring to submit a written statement unanimously condemning the act, but paving the way to let the fairer sex hold forth on this “women’s issue.”
Mayor Vatsala Andekar gave women corporators the opportunity to speak first to be followed by the men later. However ,when Congress corporator Alka Patil too said that their male counterparts should join in the discussion to condemn the act, Chhajed said it would be alright with the men if only women corporators spoke on the issue !
Bharatiya Janata Party corporator Ujwal Keskar who had come well prepared to speak on the occasion, did not protest too much like his other fellow colleagues when he was asked to sit down and let the women dominate the proceedings for a change…
