Nashik: The Mahant of Digambar Akhada, Ayodhya, Gyandasji Maharaj has demanded the arrest of VHP leaders for instigating violence in the name of religion. Talking to mediapersons on his arrival to see the preparations for the Kumbh mela, the Mahant said VHP leaders were distributing knives in the name of trishuls and insulting the Hindu religion. He added the VHP had no locus standi in the Ayodhya dispute and the Govt should not invite its leaders for talks.

BANGALORE: RSS spokesman Ram Madhav on Tuesday alleged that Islamic terrorist outfits had begun a ‘‘deliberate and systematic effort’’ to clear Kerala coastline of all non-Muslims. Addressing a media conference, Madhav alleged that madarsas and mosques were coming up along the coastline and some of them had become hubs of anti-national activities. ‘‘The fact that the murderers of Marad beach near Kozhikode were arrested from the local Jama Masjid, and the recovery of a huge cache of deadly weapons from the mosque, proves this point,’’ Madhav said. —ENS

With the exception of Punjab, there were few who were willing to change. It is learnt Jagmohan held his ground and said these are important destinations for domestic tourists and integral source of our cultural fabric.

The minister also felt, the facilities available at many states leave much to be desired. There was need to improve the management of these places and create better convenience for pilgrims and visitors, sources in the ministry said.

The minister also asked the states to consider enacting suitable legislation on the model of Vaishno Devi shrine in J-K to ensure orderliness and security in such places.
